1) Vinicunca - Rainbow Mountain

The Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca is a mountain in the Andes near Cusco in Peru and Considered a holy site. It is also called the Mountain of the Seven Colors and has an altitude of 5,200m (17,100ft)

This rainbow-like appearance is created by the sediment of minerals throughout the area giving the mountain the turquoise, lavender, gold and other colors. This hidden Gem was covered in snow for thousands of years, and was only recently, in 2013, discovered due to the snow melting caused by climate change.

Access requires a two-hour drive from Cusco and a walk of about 3.1 mi

Those Sandstone Mountains are a massive andesitic-dacitic stratovolcano of early Pleistocene age, and their particular shapes, including towers, pillars, and ravines, have been formed by winds and rains in more than 24 million years.

The Minerals that gives this mountain the different colors are for White: sandstone (quartz sand) and limestone, for Purple or lavender: marlstone (mixture of clay and calcium carbonate) and silicates, for Red: argillites and clays, for Green: clays rich in ferromagnesian minerals (mixture of iron and magnesium) and copper oxide.
